Kariw has indicated that this thread is about Finland

I am wanting to take a trip back to Finland in the next 3 months. The trip will probably be about 4 days, and I am wanting to go Helsinki, Oulu, Rovaniemi. I will be based at Rovaniemi, but I would very much like to go to Oulu. Can you recomend the cheapest way to travel (from UK) and what I should see and do in Oulu?
Many thanks!

Lets begin with the easiest tip. Cheapest way to get to Finland is to fly with Ryanair(.com) from London or Liverpool to Tampere. Remember to check different flight prices.

Because you are taking such a short trip, I would suggest you to skip Helsinki entirely and go there in the summertime instead.

It is really easy to get a train north from Tampere. Buses from airport go straight to railwaystation. You can book/buy the train ticket in advance.

The train goes by route Helsinki - Tampere - Oulu - Rovaniemi and I think it's the easiest way to travel. The bus might be a bit cheaper but also slower and not too comfortable. Helsinki -> Rovaniemi takes 10 hours by train and costs 75 EUR.

Finland facts: (I didn't check these ;)

Do ask more! I answered in these questions that I really know.. I'm not really familiar with northern finland.

Hi Kari,

4 days for 3 places, might be a little bit ambtious to say the least especially because the distances you are travelling are pretty big. So it might be wiser to wait until you have the possibility to go for at least 6 or 7 days.

Blue one, a sister company of SAS, is also flying to Helsinki from London (you might end up, in a SAS plane, but for a good price), but they are also flying several route within Scandinavia.

You could fly Helsinki - Olou, and travel on to Rovaniemi by train.

When arriving in Helsinki, you will find that it can take a while before the bus will reach the central station, the ride will take 45 minutes - 1 hour (either way) from the Airport. (the bus I took got stuck in traffic, so it took even longer). Helsinki also is a city, that warrants 2 or 3 days in my opinion. (4 if you want to visit Tallin as a daytrip).

Hei! Thanks for the replies and I know that I am not spending enough time there:(. I was planning to fly into Helsinki and go straight to the North. I was wondering what the most practical way to get there is, in your experience. I have not been to Oulu before, so what should a 'first timer' do there? And also, what did I miss in Rovaniemi the last time I was there? Things outside the town itself (apart from the obvious!) or hidden gems. Again, thanks for replying, maybe you can give me an answer for my other post!;)
