Hello,

This question probably has an obvious answer and will have undoubtedly been discussed in previous threads but I wasn't able to find them.

Anyways, after creating my blog for an upcomming trip I refered friends to my site in order to stay up to date and leave comments, but I didn't realize until now that in order for people to leave comments on my blog, they must be registered Travellerspoint users. I was hoping to avoid the need to force friends and family to signup just to leave comments. Perhaps there is a way around this? Or must they all register accounts in order to stay in contact and leave comments?

Thank you for your time,

Jay

Unfortunately there's a lot of automated spambots out there that'd be incessantly submitting spam comments to all blogs if we didn't require registration, and so it was decided that making people do a one-time registration on the site before being able to comment was the lesser pain, compared to making all blog owners have to deal with spam comments on their blogs all the time.
(And of course, once they have accounts, we hope some of them might decide to see what the rest of the site has to offer as well.) :)

Forcing your friends and family to join is just one of TPs way of accomplishing their main goal: Complete World TP-ination.

You know, what makes this quote even funnier to me, being an American, is that here in the States, TP also means toilet paper. We are going to TP the world, baby! Yeah! I'm all for that.

Hi,
Im kinda in the same situation. I don't wanna force my friends to become members. Isn't possible to use an image validation thingy (those images with letters and numbers in) instead of only letting members comment?

Unfortunately those image things can be cracked just as easily as most other current measures intended to hinder spammers.... that being said, I'd LOVE for there to be a better way to do this!! The amount of comments would shoot up if it was easier and didn't require becoming a member and that kind of interaction only makes the site better. We'll have a fresh think about this and anyone with any suggestions, please feel free to post them here!!

One idea is to make it optional to allow comments by non members, and if the blogger opts in to this they are notified of all comments but they don't go live straightaway, requiring the blogger to actually approve of them (at least the first time an email address is used).
