I'm going to Australia next january with my girlfriend and our daughter (6 years old). We live in Norway.
I found that the cheapest flights to Australia is by flying with KLM, or British Airways.
The thing is, we want to make a stopover in Kuala Lumpur on our way to Sydney. I think there is a rule that you are allowed to stay in a city up to 24 hours, without paying more for it. Can anyone confirm this?
I've had stopovers that lasted five weeks without paying more for it. It all depends on the ticket. For the details of arrangements like that, I personally have found it worthwhile to just drop by the nearest travel agency - they're generally aware of everything relevant, and I find this more than worth their commission.
I'll give it a try at the travel agency as well, although I found a great route at Emirates' website (I posted it in this post http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=32913)
