I think tatoos can be really feminine if chosen very carefully Rach. I have two (one on the top of my right arm and the other at the base of my spine) I have just booked another and guess what! yes - it's going from the top of my back, winding down either side of my spine in a really lovely broken pattern. Everyone I know who has tattoos loves the idea, but some friends think I'm crazy. Personally, I think that they are not for everyone - I've seen some really disgusting ones - but as long as you choose carefully and really give it serious thought and are sure, then go ahead. Life can be so short - why not enjoy it? Plus you can always cover it up when you need to if it's on your back. If you feel confident with them, then that will radiate and you will be able to carry it off completely.
You go girl!
Hi, one of my friends has a tattoo that covers her complete back and looks really cool, its a gothic mermaid, but i have to admit i saw something similar on another older woman and it looked terrible.............. but if you can carry it off then go for it..........
Rach, question - by saying "i want a very large tattoo on my back" What do you mean by Very large? Full back coverage? A4? Somewhere between the two? In addition, do you know exactly waht you want or do you hjust want a big tattoo???
Obviously it has to be your decision, but i generally quite like them, providing they are, hmm, tasteful, for want of a better word. Big tattoo's are fine providing they aren't overbearing - i think that you need to be able to see the skin around the tattoo for it to work. And although not applicable to you, i don't like ones which are overly intrusive (i.e. hard to cover up). Smaller ones in the right place, like the base/top of spine, tops of arms etc can look really good.
Against that, a girl i know has a huge forbidden fruit tattoo on her upper arm (she's only small anyway) which i think looks really out of place, and my grandmother has a couple of quite big ones (was traditional), which probably lloked good at the time and when she was younger, but now.....
I am totally for tattoos and have been wanting to get one for the longest time (I'd say over 10 years - yes I did want one when I was a preteen! ) but haven't gotten one yet for quite a few reasons. First and most important being that I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I did know that I didn't want to regret the choice in my later years (which I'm guessing is why you're asking our opinion).
I think it's very important to know what you want to get, which you probably do. The tattoo I want (which i've finally figured out!) is to be semi large as well (about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide), and on my lower back. The reason it doesn't bother me to get it is because it's a very intricate and feminine design. You would DEFINITELY not see it on any 50 year old biker! So if you're going for something other than a gigantic snake (I am so horrified of snakes btw! ), I think you're ok.
BTW, what are you getting?
Now, if I can only get through my current money troubles, I will be getting my appointment for my tattoo soon!
At least its on your back so you dont have to look at it every day. I have 2 tatts, one of a pentagram on my lower back that i got when i was about 16, and the other a chinese symbol on my left foot. Its actually meant to mean dragon. I was born in the year of the dragon, and i got it to mark living in the last year of the dragon in barcelona, but apparently it means turtle instead(also very good luck because turtles live for a long time) My freind has a beautiful rather large tatt of a dragon going down her back and the tail curves around onto her side. it looks good, but its rather fierce for such a petite blonde thing. I think she likes surprising people
My family and friends are not into big tattoos (my mum is definitely not into any). I also had one friend who said she thought it would look like an oil painting and another say that he found big tattoos on women too masculine. The two tattoos I have already are a small red rose just above my waistline on the front and a small butterfly at the back on my shoulder. I am hoping to get two cherubs on my lower (or upper) back which would only be about 8" by 4". They are my own design and they are not the cartoony type cherubs that everyone thinks I am on about which may look good on some parts of some people but it is an actual painting type tattoo. I am asking because it's a permanent decision and because so many of my family and friends are against it I wanted the general opinion of the public and was hoping that everyone would spur me on
at the end of the day its you who has to live with them, so i don't think anyone can tell you to either go for it or to forget it, if it makes you smile then do it....... ....... besides if you change your mind in a few years you could have lazer surgery to get them taken off, this type of surgery is supposed to have progressed a lot in the last few years........
good luck !!
Mmm thanks - yeh I'll probably go with it - or some sort of tattoo - the last two I had I just went in with no previous doubts. I will probably just go in one Saturday spontaneously and have it done. Thanks again everyone for the advice given.
let us know what you get done in the end !!!
