There's a lot of anti-american sentiment in the UK, and seldom a week goes by without some diatribe against america/americans/americanism at work or in the pub. I think that amongst my peers it stems largely from a resentment of US foreign policy (a bit hypocritical really) and a percieved lack of any foresight on major issues of the day (environment, disease in africa etc) and cultural relativism. Given that's how intelligent folks think in the UK its hardly surprising that there is such resentment in the arab world for example.

Problem is that people go too far and associate that stuff with all americans, which is more than a bit unfair - none of the americans I know agree with it.

we are suppose to have free thought . This means we should all think_ but not in the same way . Man kind will only survive if we are all different. unfortunately the world today is not like that and it is as tribal as the stone age. now we have that political correct c...
you only hear bad news (as they say "bad news travels fast") the good people in the world usually are never heard.
As for being anti -American. i wouldn't buy from my country anything american. why?
Because if it is faulty . If you are cheated etc. the system will not help you in when you live in another country.
i think the value of life for ordinary working people is not full filled and it will catch up politically . i don't want a get rich quick on the backs of others . look at russia and the arab world. not to forget africa and other parts of the world.
american bad feeling is brought about by countries who do not want to bring to the for front their own inadequacy's- it's all political distractions. politis (the movement of mans thoughts.) this means manipulation.theres a sayinG (when the're talking about me there leaving someone else alone)

I don't think Canadians are necessarily more hostile towards Americans, but certainly towards what many see as a government that goes against many of the values/laws we uphold. Let me tell you, not a week goes by that some U.S. senator or the U.S. Ambassador to Canada doesn't chastise us for being too lenient, too liberal, too unlike some U.S. value or other. That's where a lot of anti-Bush sentiment here comes from: a bigger nation trying to tell a smaller, yet equally independent nation how it should think.

Wanted to post some links, and I just found a few:

Standing Up for Canada

Canadians on Slippery Slope

Canadians "too hedonistic" for change

The last one takes the cake!

Tway, I think the issue is who we have in charge right now. It's not just Canada that gets chastised about those things. It happens on a daily basis at home to Democrats, or really anyone who doesn't agree with the the conservative "posse" in Washington. On the other side of the coin, when Clinton was in office, we were a morally bankrupt society with major problems at home. Personally, I'd take the latter over the former, but it's never perfect.

On another topic, how strange must it be for the Danish and Norwegians to have people pissed off at them right now? Has anybody in the history of the world been pissed off at either of those countries? Okay, the Vikings probably weren't well received abroad and that Hamlet story didn't have a very happy ending, but. . .
