and the all those that drag out the First Amendment rights need to remember that freedom of speech comes with responsibility, too.

I am going to drag out the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer on the grounds of self-incrimination. ;)

Hee hee! It all becomes a slippery slope, though, doesn't it? I re-read what I wrote, and Dr. Laura and Howard Stern popped into mind. Both are controversial radio hosts, at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both have fans that want the rival host taken off the air. But who's "right" and who's "wrong"? What kind of personal responsibility should each take, if they both truly believe that their own interpretation of their role is correct?

Freedom (TM, for beerman) has many interpretations, so what does it mean, in the end, to be truly 'free'?

i suppose were all anti something that we don't understand to a degree. why just usa? look at the other places in the world There's a million places worse and better. the world isn't just the states. it's everywhere. The world will not survive if we can't understand every one is different. All the worlds great people were individuals.
i feel better for that.

I was travelling with my american girlfriend several years ago in Cairo and one hostel refused to let her stay. I (being Irish) was allowed to.

Needless to say I took the room and left her.

But I have met French people who complained of being very badly treated in America.

I traveled to England and Scotland (London, Salisbury, Edinburgh) and I didn't experience too much anti US stuff. It's true that most americans don't get a chance to see the rest of the world, but it's just because the US is so big and each of its corners is just like a different continent with different people and geography. The media is a joke, all that gets roadcasted is politics and how mittens the kitten fell out of a tree outside the studio.

(dont worry about the Louisana guy, those cajuns are a whole different culture from the rest of US)

I was in Buenos Aires last year when Bush visited the country. The feeling of anti-usa is very strong in a lot of latin american countries. While in the city with my Argentinian boyfriend, I was constantly approached by protesters asking where I was from. Of course being English in Argentina is not the ideal either- especially at football matches where the whole stadium will chant "el que no salta es un ingles" - " whoever isn't jumping up and down is an englishman"
An american girl I met was terrified to go out into the streets.
It's very easy to stereotype people - but it's also true that each nationality has their little quirks.
Us Brits are renowned as piss heads - only too true on Friday and Saturday nights in every town in the UK.
The Americans are renowned for being loud and brash - also true but it doesn't make any of us bad people - we are all just being what we are.

Hi there

I would like to say this. Americans forget that they represent their country, even if they ar ean individual, even if you are a complete pacifist. You must always remember that AMerica is responsible for the DEATHS of millions of people if for the right or wrong reasons they have invaded and killed people from almost every country in the world.

People will have hurt because they have lost brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, husbands, wives and loved ones. Then they see Americans who travel without a care, and that hurts. A lot. I travel and I see this. In my travels I have been to the Middle East and I have seen how american soldiers treat the muslims in the surrounding towns, drunk, bragging, then the think that all women are sluts for them to sleep with like they do in America. The americans disrespect the natives of their religion and self respect. That is to that Americans don't even respect themselves. that all they are, are drunk hooligans who are horny all the time and that no one can show resistance to them because they can hide behind their military might.

I have plenty of american friends who have experienced animosity against them. They understand that their country are the perpertrators and what the government is doing is not for the advantage of that country but for America to exploit their power and kill in the name of anything they CREATE. And the joke is that americans believe what ever the media wants them to believe.

REMEMBER DO NOT BLAME OTHERS FOR HATING YOU. BUT BLAME YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT FOR THEIR WAYS OF ABUSING POWER AND BLAME YOURSELF FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING AND LIVING OFF THE FAT OF THE LAND. THE MORE AMERICA KILLS THE MORE PEOPLE WILL HATE UNTIL...

Maybe one day the rights will be wronged and justice will prevail so stop complaining about other countries just don't go there. stay where you are. You are responsible for destruction and not for beauty or creation, just death, exploitation and capitalization.

To Mally

Don't hate those who feel contempt towards americans who are only responsible for death and illogical decisions which benefit themselves and no one else. I was in America and the things they do there are just idiotic and go against anything christian or even religious for that matter. They hate even themselves which explains why they have to kill so many.

I cry to think that if the world unites against America we might be able to achieve WORLD PEACE and love for everyone in the world. The worlds greatest obstacle is America.

No offense, but this is seriously short sighted, plus it is a huge contradiction. 'unites against' and 'world peace' in one sentence just isn't possible.

Actually your views overall seem pretty short sighted. If you have views like this, I really can't believe you have American friends as you seem to be dead set against every single American, rather than choose to open your mind to different people, their different cultures and countries. It's rather silly to judge an entire nation like you do. Are you saying all Germans in the second world war were evil? Or all Italians under Mussolini? etc.etc.etc.

I personally hate Americans for not producing more episodes of Lost. Damn you, JJ Abrams! What's with the making us wait till February?

I had so hoped that this thread was dead and had been buried, but I see that is not the case. Well, it was actually - somewhere around page 33 of this forum... Something tells me that you were searching anti-American information and found this little gem.

I agree with Sam. And like Sam, I mean no offense, but I find your viewpoints also shortsighted and broad generalizations. If I took the same approach, would I be correct in thinking you were a supporter of Apartheid? You're probably thinking that's just a rediculous "jumping to conclusions" on my behalf and you would be correct. But, it is no different than wide-sweeping comments about the US.

There are very few countries in this world where bad decisions, bad governments, bad people and bad behavior have not been part of their history. It's very easy to sit back and point fingers from afar. But just as Germany, Italy, South Africa and countless other countires have found - it's an arduous task to make changes for the better from within. With age comes wisdom and these generalized comments show me that you have some growing left to do...
