Add a trip summary below the map

Travel Forums System Talk Add a trip summary below the map

Maybe there can be a small space between the map and the Trip Outline to leave space to enter a quick summary of the trip. Then for the more detailed part, people can click on the actual location. Or maybe make it possible to link a diary entry or blog entry to a trip map.

Thanks

Good point. A field to enter a 'trip description' does seem nice.

As for linking blog entries, this is already possible. All you need to do is ensure the dates you enter are correct on both your blog entry and your map and they will automatically be linked in several ways.

The diary is not linked as yet.

Not a bad idea Thomas (the trip summary one that is). I'm sure Sander and/or Pete and others will pitch in with their thoughts. Be interesting to hear what others think of that.

With regards to blog entries, these are already linked to the maps, based on the date range specified for each entry. For example, this entry in my blog has a link at the top to my travel map (to the relevant trip only). Clicking on that, you'll see it brings up the place that matches the blog entry (and in this view you can also see the linked blog entry) plus photos taken nearby. Note there are some changes being made to how the map actually displays when clicking on a link like this (zoom and center level). This function is not available for the diaries I'm afraid.

Well, it took a while, but this idea is now live.

To add descriptions to your trip, you need to 'Rename' your trip (I know, not really the most intuitive, but hey.. ) . There you will find an option to add a description. Also, when you are creating a new trip it should show up. The trip description is shown on the 'trip outline' view, for instance The Australia v Uruguay Trip

At the same time as putting this live, I've put live another very nice enhancement for the maps. Now when you click on a location's name in the trip outline (or in the 'next/previous destination' link), the map will actually move, zoom and center on that location.

I'm especially stoked with that one. The trips look so much cooler when the map bounces around for every stop :)
