Quoting this email from a member

I want to thank you for finding a long lost friend for me.

In 1969 I met A B.He had travelled from Turkey to England to do some voluntary work for an organisation I was involved in.
In 1975 I met him again but then I lost contact with him believing he had gone to America.

I put a message out on your board but I didn't click the link which would have sent me an email if he responded.

By chance one evening earlier this year I was bored and put my own name into Google Search. I went from page 1 to 2 to 5 to 27 and there I saw the message:
A B is looking for J G. The link was to Travellerspoint.

He had responded a year ago.

I immediately emailed him and he replied within hours. We are now in regular contact. I have been to visit him and he will be coming to see me soon.
Thank you very much. I hadn't seen him for 31 years!
J G

It's always great to hear about long lost friends being reunited, especially when they are from different countries and it's been a long time since they were in touch!

Sam
ps. see how important it is to switch your message center notification on

Once again, that's a great story!! Thirty-one years is a long time and to think they had both probably been looking to find each other. Cool, Sam!!

Just out of curiosity - have you gotten any e-mails where people have posted a message, reconnected and gone on to get married, etc? I wonder if that has happened yet...

Not that I know of yet isa.... but that's not to say it hasn't happened!

Wow... that's another great story!

Sam, I think the option to switch on e-mail notification should be included in the new member sign up form. Members who have not had the chance to use the message centre, or are not curious enough to explore the available tools in TP, would not have known the existence of that feature.

I really wouldn't want to include more fields in the signup form. If possible I'd actually like to make it less at some stage :) Seeing as switching it on by default is strictly against our policy that leaves either the status quo, or for example the option of redirecting new users to a new page the first time they sign up. This page would include explanation on popular functionality or some good starting points so to speak. Of course, we could also just make the signup email a bit more complete, but no one tends to read those things these days

I'll log the new page idea in the to do list
