Hi,

My friends and I are heading to India in October for about 18days. We're thinking of flying into Mumbai and headin south to Thiruvanthapuram where we will fliy out of . Any suggestion on what to see? Are we being to ambitious considering our limited time??

No you are not too limited. 18 days is reasonable. You will have a great time. The area is interesting and the season is perfect. What to see. Mumbai is India's most cosmopolitan city with a lot of Britisch architecture and a lot of great things to see (stay atleast 4 days). Going south by train you will be in Goa. This is all about relaxed athmosphere, fantastic beach, great beachsite eateries and palmtrees. You can explore Goa the best by hiring a scooter (costs about 400 rupees a day). Go to Palolem or Vagator. Stay in Goa at least 5 days. Then head south for Cochin. This place at itself is nice to walk around for a day or two but you should go for the backwaters (little south of Cochin). You can make boattrips on lagoons, canal and lakes here. You will pass several silent villages and great nature. This may take one or two days or even longer if you want. South of here are a few more beachplaces and backwaterplaces such as Allepey and Kollam. By the time you reach Thiruvananthapuram your 18 days will have passed. Good luck to you;)

If you will have a couple of days to spare, try to visit Hampi in the south. You could take a bus (sleeper) from Goa to Hospet, which is half an hour drive (tuk-tuk) from Hampi. Hampi is one of the nicest places i`ve ever seen. Enjoy...

Often i found the focus of travelling to India is Goa.
Goa is a replica of the west in India and if you are
from the west, why be what you were at home again.

India's festivals are amazing and is the strength of her culture.
The Festivals at Trichur in Kerala, the Chitra festival at
Madurai, those at Puri in Orissa, the Durga festival in Kolkata,
the Ganesha Festival at Mumbai and elsewhere are just fantastic.
Not to forget the Great Mahamahams that are held in many holy cities, once in 12 years.

These festivals will rejuvenate any visitor. There are festivals throughout the year and i will try and compile the details to enable
tourists to India to include them in their schedule.

Goa is not going to be the focus of my trip. I do want to see the real india. i have no interest in lying on beaches. Im sure we wil get to goa but it wont be a major part of our trip!

Then you should, as Ushi suggested, go to Hampi. You could do that after you spend a few days in Goa. Never been in Hampi myself but people keep telling me that is is great there. From there you also could go more land inwards. For example to nandi hills. There are a few relaxed hill stations here such as Ooty. On the way there you could also visit Mysore which has a great palace. From Ooty visit Coimbatore in the Nilgiri hills, it has two famous temples. From there travel to Cochin and do what I suggested before.

Hi Brother,

Why don't you add Kanyakumari after the last point in Kerala i.e. Trivandrum (Kovalam Beach). You will find Vivekanand Memorial also the importance is you can see the sunset and sunrise at one point where all three seas meets - Arabian, Hind & Bangal Ki Khadi.

It's good & knowledgeble in life.

Aditya
