Has anyone stopped at either of these two beach resorts in Thailand?

Are they worth staying at for a few nights?

Thanks for your time,

Hua Hin is a good place, excelent beach, quite night life but some good places to be found, jungle and mountains at your back and about an hour down the road Khung Tanot national park, miles and miles of deserted beaches.

Stayed in Hua Hin with some friends [who teach there] earlier this year. There are a good number of bars around and a couple of clubs if thats what you are looking for. There's some good beaches as well and as already stated, some great counbtryside etc not faraway. However, bear in mind that the place is overwhelmingly aimed towards Scandinavian package tours and a fairly substantial Scandinavian expat community of middle aged/retired folks. I actually found it really bizarre to suddenly see lots of Swedish/Danish signs, menus, restaurants, hairdressers etc after being away for a year.

Hua Hin is pretty cool for 1 or 2 nights. There are some really atmospheric guesthouses along the sea front built on 2 storey piers. For the life of me, I don't remember what they are called, but they are near the world coffee shop which is part of the hilton (or whatever huge hotel it is there). The night market is also well worth a visit.

Hello Skatty

I stayed at one of them, around 9 years ago.
I cant remember which. I just stopped there, on my way South, in Thailand.
But it was nice enough there.

Present Hua Hin & Cha-Am beach not beautiful to resemble past. kao Simiran or phuket better than couple. I advised Nopparat tara beach at krabi.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please... ]

Hua Hin is far busier with more to do than Cha Am, there are beaches all along the sea front area for about 5 km, then there are other beaches past Khao Takiab, go 20 minutes furhter and more beaches. Around Sam Roi Yot, about 30 minutes south are plenty of quiet and almost deserted beaches and you havew the great National Park running along the coast. It is very easy to take a local bus to the coast south.
Hua Hin has some very good restaurants and bars and some clubs, it is very tame and pleasant. Some good local night markets in town and further away from the center. There are bungalows and B&B places to stay, many very close to the beaches.
My tip would be to go into town in the evenings but spend the days at the quieter beach areas, lots of local life, fishing villages and beaches within 10 minutes of the town center. You can climb up the temple top at Khao Takiab, feed the monkeys. There are also Elephant places around.
Also they have local buses, like from Cha Am to Hua Hin and Songthaews along the main road, so 10 Baht gets you a long ride. Food in the market is still cheap as they don't price things for tourists, we found it very cheap there.
