Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean How do I get a visa for Columbia?!!

I`m irish and have been travelling round South America (actually have just made it to Brazil and Argentina so far, god this place is big and too much fun, too goddam hard to move when everywhere is so goddam cool!!), but I have heard nothing but praise for Columbia and I`m totally set on getting there (if eventually!)

I can`t seem to find any info about how to go about getting a visa as I know I need one being Irish... Could anyone point me in the right direction or give me any contacts / tips?!!

Thanks a million!!!!

Hi Emily,

This is from the foreign office's website and while I know it's not specifically for Irish people, the same warnings would probably apply:

Our current understanding is that a British national may enter Colombia for up to 90 days as a visitor without a visa, but that there is no unconditional right to do so. The decision on whether to permit entry and length of stay rests with the Immigration Officer on arrival. You should have a valid return ticket with you and your passport should have at least six month's validity. We advise you to enter Colombia by air only and not to try to enter by any overland route. You may be able to extend your stay up to a maximum of a further 90 days on application and payment of fee at the immigration office of the Department of Administration and Security once in Colombia. As a visitor, you cannot remain in Colombia more than 180 days in any twelve-month period.. You should not outstay your visa.

So it's pretty vague. If I were you I'd contact the Colombian Embassy in London (which also looks after the ROI) - tel +44 20 7637 9893 and get the lowdown on what you need. You can also email them on mail@colombianembassy.co.uk .

Have a good trip!

Cheers,

Chris

You dont need a visa to enter colombia i think. Customs can however be a little sparce with the time they will give you so be sure to ask for the right amount of time otherwise they could end up giving you only a little wich means you might have to leave the country before you want or will have to renew your visa.

Very poor advice-as mentioned go to the nearest Colombian Embassy and ask them.

You can Thank the goons of the IRA for putting every Irishman who wants to visit Colombia through this hassle.
