Thank god Beckham is leaving. I've been praying for the past three years and FINALLY he's leaving. Thank god. He should never have joined Real Madrid.

Ah, there is sportfreak summer910 again;) He is too old for high quality Europe. That is why he goes to America (for the money). Those guys in US can't play soccer, right? They play like a first division club from Luxembourg, its true!

Hello wouterrr

Yeah, Beckham is really just an average player. Hardworking, yeah, but you can find tons of footballers out there who work just as hard, if not harder. He's not the sort to change a game, not like the true stars out there (on the field, not in the glitzy limelight). And I see him as much of an airhead as his wife. He's better served in the US, they pay him more and pander to his (and Victoria's) whims and fancies and whatnot. He knows he's no longer good enough for Europe, but he thinks too highly of himself to join a smaller club elsewhere, where they'd maximise his playing time. A two-bit player and I'm sure Real fans are glad he's finally leaving.

And yes, those folks in the US can't play football!

The wifey has arrived in the US yesterday.

I think he will do some good here in the US. Maybe not so much to the team he will be playing for but all the buzz he will create in the media world will surely bring some attention to the game here. I lived in Europe for three years and know just how religious of a game it is there, and it is no where near that here. Truthfully, I couldnt even name a single player here in the US, but I know tons from Europe.

Everything here is ill-informed and nonsense. Firstly, i doubt anybody works as hard as beckham. Secondly, what a short memory some people have! Not the sort of player to change a game? Have you forgotton that the only reason England got to World Cup 2002 was beckhams performances? He singlehandedly got us to the tournament and played there despite not being fully fit after his foot injury. Also scoring a decisive penalty against the Argies. He won the triple with Man Utd in 99 so how can he be a two-bit player in what was probably one of the best sides in the world at any time? The Madrid fans loved him and are dissapointed to see him leave after years of service. His problem there was that most of the squad were ageing stars e.g figo, ronaldo, etc. Inter, AC Milan, Celtic were all interested but he didn't want to go to them. Whilst he's the not the sharpest tool in the box, how many dumb people can earn millions of pounds and are recognised all over the world? He's pretty sharp when it comes to earning from his image, although poor choice of wife granted. If U.S t.v stations put some money into the game as happened in England the game could take off in the states. Sure it will never be as big as NFL, NBA and MLB but MLS (Major League Soccer) does have a ring to it! Have a look at the Guardian online for a more informed discussion on this rather than expressing drivvle as this.

Beckham wants to keep the dream alive. Going to USA makes him immortal. There where the real soccer is (Europe) will everybody remind him as an excellent player. They will not see that Beckham falls into despair. In fact he will be doing well for a while in USA, I suppose.

Soccer in US is as popular as basketball or baseball in Europe. Only a very small minority plays baseball or basketball in Europe. Nobody likes it to watch. No supporters whatsoever as I think.
