Hi everyone, im Gordon from Scotland, i wasnt sure on how much money and stuff to take and just wanted to see if any of you could help me out with some advice. Im arriving in Melbourne on 22nd june this year, i have $3500, how long can i expect to keep going on this, i will be going out a lot and taking trip's to Sydney for a couple of week's once i get there. Also should i take a sleeping bag for hostel's. Is there any other equipment apart from backpack and clothes and stuff that would be worth buying before i go. Thanks for reading this any help's much appreciated.
Is that Aussie dollars? If so, that's about £1800, which should keep you going for 2-3 months if you're careful.
Some people say not to take sleeping bags, as the hostels might want you to use their own. You might want to just take something like a Snugpak 500, which is tiny, or better still, a silk liner, which fold to about the size of a tangerine, but will keep you comfy as long as it doesn't get freezing indoors.
I travelled from Sydney to Melbourne and back on an overnight coach. It's the cheapest way I think and was pretty comfortable, although I don't sleep much on those things. Can't remember whether it was £40 or $40 ! Return, that is.
I am pretty sure you can live off of 50 AUD a day, so with 3500 (AUD?) it should last around 70 days. Of course, if you really live on a budget, you can stretch it to three months, but considering you mentioned going out a lot, 2 months is probably more realistic
Thanks, well i plan on working so i suppose that will help, never been a great saver so i better learn fast lol thanks again
