me and my girlfriend are currently in Perth and have decided to drive to Sydney. We have $6000 for a campervan or car, any suggestions on where to look or any tips would be great!
Also we are undecided on which route to take, it doesnt matter how long it takes us, but do want to go to Sydney. We plan to leave in the next few weeks.
We would love some advice, please!
I have done that trip a few times. There isn't much to see along the nullabor but plenty at the other side. It is worth doing once!
Not sure about what car is good for $6000?? somethikng you could sleep in would be great.
Leaving from Perth, head to Coolgardie, a sneak at Kalgoorlie is worthwhile if you have the time. Then south from Coolgardie and east across nullabor. Not advisable to drive at night through WA to the border. Camels, roos etc--unbelievable, and very dangerous. The last time I came through a camel peeled the roof off a car leaving its occupants in a critical condition and had to be air-lifted. Once you get past the WA border night driving isn't too bad, although taht was a year ago so best to be careful. You will get a good idea around sunset what the wildlife is like.
Definately stop along the nullabor at the whale watching point, cheap and usually heaps of whales--worth it. Another cool little town is Streaky Bay (S.A). Then you have to decide whether to do the other states and scenic drive up coast or save heaps of time (days/ weeks) and cut through straight to Sydney??? Done both, and both good fun.
I last did it in 4 days, so it can be done but if you have time there are things to see along the way and neat little towns.
Be carfeul with dining. Most places only serve dinner between 4-5, or 5-6 (cant remember)but otherwise you may not be able to eat!!
If you happen to pass through a place called CORBA-definately eat at the steak grill...the best food for 2000km!!
Hope this helps
Check other hostels for campervans and local papers. I have done this trip twice, If your in perth now i would suggest heading south of perth to bunbury, Margaret river and albany over to esperence, there is nothing on the nullabor plain only good road signs be careful crossing that you have enough petrol cause the gas stations are stretched out abit.
yeah i would go streaky bay direction and up to port augusta. try and spend some time in adelaide, it's a really nice city and you can get camps site close to the city, try and get out to kangaroo island.
Hope this helps abit, oh i'm so jealous have fun
Thanks for all your advice! We are so excited (a little scared also)
Just another question, we we're wondering if it is best to get a campervan or car? After spending a few weeks in Sydney with family we plan to travell up the coast
Thanks again for advice!!
