I got an email from fco.gov.uk

What's up with this?

A decision has now been made on your UK visa application. Your documents should be ready for collection from the Visa Application Centre in 3 working days time, unless you have opted to have them delivered to you by courier.

That means you have succesfully gotten your visa :) congrats

Umm... I don't want to sound negative, but I wish to point out something here. The message only says a decision has been made, but didn't specifically say what decision. It could be either way. I don't want you to put your hopes up too high now only to be dashed later.

Anyway, I hope it's an approval. Fingers crossed and good luck.

i tai chi some postive energy here..my reply from VFS many months ago goes like this :
With regards to your query, kindly note your application is ready for
collection; please visit the UK Visa Application Centre where you submitted
your visa application to collect the same.

My visa is approved without interview. the email reply isnt standard/standard - i am not sure but both of the email content surely sound the same, to me.
anyway, nothing is concrete till you get the visa on hand. let's not speculate and hope for the best.

secondly, for those who are currently a WHM or was…could you guys probably share your experience in getting a job there? i have read through the previous post…and it looks as though the current job market over there is kinda tough. i wasn’t really looking for a professional job or anything upscale…something like a retail associate (which is more flexible and not so stressful) will do…plus i have an experience in fashion retail. how much pay do you think i should expect on this kinda jobs in the UK? i’m planning to save up for my next traveling plans which include Europe and the States.

yeah, with ur visa, u can drop in and ask for job in the retail shop. however, in my opinion, it is easier to make money working in the restaurant though it is reli a tough task and the working hour is long. but you could save on the food and accomodation. thus you could save more

all the best

For the benefit of everyone, I'm answering jokiasu's questions (sent via PM) here:

I have a question for you.. How will they monitor on how long we are gonna work in UK? I am fully aware that we are suppose to work for a yr n hol a yr.. but wat happens if i decided otherwise? meaning work 1.5yrs?

They monitor you by the taxes you pay. No matter how little you earn, by law, you are required to pay tax. Deductions will be made when you get your pay. While they may not track you constantly, you could land yourself into trouble when you return to the UK in the future, or if they conduct a random check.

I know that some restaurants do not declare you as an employee and thus you do not have to pay tax. However, this is illegal and if the authority conduct checks, you could be in trouble. And most bosses who do this pay you lower than the national minimum wage.

Can you also tell me how did u open a local bank acc in London. What is the requirement and min amount $$

This can be a real hassle if you don't have a job. I will advise you not to worry too much on opening a bank account until you get a job. Exchange about £200-300 in cash before you come. Split it and keep them in separate, secure locations so that you don't lose all of them in case anything untoward happen. Use your existing bank's ATM card to withdraw funds in the UK. Remember to notify your bank to activate the overseas withdrawal facility for your ATM card permanently. Maybank customers can do this at their ATMs. A word of caution. If you use a Malaysian bank ATM card to withdraw money here, try to do it before 4pm UK time, because after that time, there might be temporary interruptions because it's midnight in Malaysia and banks may disconnect their systems temporarily for system maintenance for a few hours. So, if you try to withdraw money after 4pm and the ATM rejects your request, don't be alarmed. Try again a few hours later, or the next day.

Once you've got a job, ask your employer to write a simple letter (address to the bank you want) on the company letterhead confirming that you're their employee and what your current address is. With this letter, and your passport, you can open your account. Banks here charge you monthly fee (a few pounds) for maintaining an account. So put in an initial deposit of a hundred pounds upon opening and add more later.

And you'll also need a National Insurance Number (NI Number) when you start work. Everybody who works in the UK need one, and all your tax and national insurance (equivalent to Malaysia's Socso) contributions will go into this account. Like the bank account, it's easier and faster to get one if you already have a job secured. Some companies might even do it for you. More info here: Applying for NI Number

Hi all,

i have 2 questions here…and would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out with it…

about the departure date…i did my online application on 28 July 2008 and have been unsuccessful in getting the online appointment date of submission until recently. the thing is, in my online application, i have stated that i would like to travel to the UK on 28 October 2008. since i will only do the submission on 19 Sep, i wish to change my departure date to perhaps somewhere in december….Is this possible? Considering that if my application is successful, i will need to give a 3 months notice of resignation…therefore i don’t think a departure date of 28 October will be feasible. if it is possible to do a change, how do I go abt doing it? or is there a way in which i could cancel off my previous application and re-submit a new online application form?

Dear Girlie82,
Based on my experience, i totally changed my application information from the online one and the one i submitted personally to the officers. I guess it doesn't matter what you submitted online because they only look at the physical one that you submit. So, it shouldn't be a problem to change your departure dates.

Even if the online one counts, when they offer you the visa, they will ask u again if you want the visa to be activated immediately or 3 months from the approval date. So, you can tell the officer there and then (that is if you need to go thru interview). But i'm not sure how it will be like if you pass without interview la. :) Good luck!!!

yes, rejected without interview.
i never update my account book till the time applied for visa. so there is a huge amount in debit and credit where they suspect on.
i did appeal and asked bank to print out account details for 3 years then explain to the officer where the money come from.
without an interview, i get my visa in 2weeks.
