[quote=ShaLai][quote=zawa][quote=ShaLai]Hi there folks,

Hi Shalai
Alternatively, you can submit the using online application form. It is now available for Malaysia.
You can know more from this website: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/
Anyway, you need to print after completing it and submit to VFS.

Good luck!

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for yr info, it's very useful!

By the way, did you apply using this form and was it approved? Are you already in U.K? If so, do you know about the taxes we have to pay?

Shalai

I submitted my visa application on 18 June 2008 and it was approved 2 days later. Collected my passport at VFS today. I find the process and work culture at VFS and British High Comission very efficient. Well done!
I will be travelling to UK in early September.

Why worry about paying taxes? Hunt for a job and pay whatever necessary to be deducted. :)
My ambition is to travel, as long as I have sufficient fund to sustain and do lots of travelling,
that would be great! Hehe.

Congrats and glad to know that you did your own research instead of asking for samples from others.

As for me, the immigration asked:
1. You're here on WHM, do you know the restrictions of this visa?
2. Do you intend to work more or travel more? (everyone should know how to answer this, hehe, regardless what your real intention is)
3. Did you do any body checkup b4 you come? (my last checkup was more than 6 months, so he sent me to health control, did X-ray, and done. X-ray FOC one.. so dun bother to bring X-ray for extra loads )

Well, can't blame them for being not very friendly, after working for so long there, and some don't like asians... but you can do your part to ease them, greet them politely with a friendly smile. Sometimes a friendly smile can brighten someone's day.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Cheers,
Zawa

dear xin hui,

regards both 935-936,

zawa is rite...no need to worry about the officer...juz tell them your intention to travel and read out details on the visa you'll be in the tube next...
they might ask where will you stay and if you have a permanent place to stay so that they can update your contact info later...
don't bother to bring any medical report la even it is new...i guess they will x'ray u also la...like they will take malaysian medical report..unless u got serious health prob la

for bank account, hsbc is the most convenience...find a not so busy branch(there are lots of it around) walk in and ask for passport account...it does have some advantage if u got a malaysian one but it does not act as an account for u in uk...u can't use that...
passport account £6/month for the less hassle i guess worth it la...just bring along some bank statements with your malaysia home address and ic license passport...etc etc

i brought along a copy all docs i submitted to vfs...and i have no problems so far for any documentations here for work, house rent, bank account and NI applications...so if u think 50++pages of a4 paper is too much too heavy...think about putting away your extra pair of jeans instead ha ha(juz £5 to get a new one...not branded la)

see yaa soon

Xin Hui,
Taigra's right, forget about jeans, forget about jackets too, juz bring enough for the season. Can get jacket for few pounds from thrift shops/charity shops, and there's plenty of these shops, of course 2nd hand, but well, some are in pretty good condition.

Another 2 gals who arrived later than me brought their X-rays, but still have to go to Health control for them to look at it. I suggest just spend more time at health control, let them do it for you.. No other documents required, perhaps unless you've specific sickness?
