Hi, I'm planning a trip to Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam with my girlfriend and our daughter (6 years old).
We plan on flying from Oslo to Bangkok, and from there we're really open to check out the things we "should"
We want to explore the most "important" stuff + relax a bit on the beaches..
Can anyone give us some hints on things worth checking out?
Monica & Svein Erik
I've travelled all three countries and my recommendations on what not to miss would be the following - *Thailand - Chiang Mai & Pai for mountain scenery, trekking and a generally good vibe, Koh Lanta for safe & beautiful beaches, boat trips and relaxing (Phi Phi if you fancy something a little more lively, although not so many families here), * Cambodia - Angkor Wat, Siam Reap (2 days/3 nights is sufficient but best to fly as bus from Bangkok-Siam Reap is dodgy), from there, you can get a boat to Phomn Penh then to Saigon, Vietnam. *Vietnam is pretty amazing, there are some good Mekong Delta tours from Saigon (infact, you can join the trip from Cambodia - Saigon and the Mekong Delta tour together), Da Lat has some excellent mountain scenery. Beaches in Vietnam - Mui Ne is nice, but very quiet, Nha Trang is a good all rounder. HoiAn had some amazing architecture and is a great place to have a few clothes made. A boat trip around Halong Bay is one of my favourite things to do in Vietnam.
All places I've mentioned would be safe to travel with your daughter I would say. If you have any further questions, let me know as I'd be more than happy to help. Otherwise, happy travels!
beaches in cambodia and vietnam - sihanoukville which i felt was great, and phu quoc in vietnam, and it is so near the border. for cambodia, the trip to bokor hill station from kampot was one of the highlights of my trip, so maybe you would consider it. About 6 hours by bus from phnom penh.... in vietnam, it was halong and visiitng all the old war zones....
ocheuteal beach in sihanoukville is a cool place to chill out for a few days. killing fields and tuol sleng prison in phnom penh are very interesting but quite horrifying. i wouldn't recommend your daughter visit them. the royal palace in phnom penh is pleasant. angkor wat is a must see attraction, i'd recommend 3 day pass $40 if you have the time. mekong delta in vietnam is nice and people very friendly there but a few days would suffice. the buses around the delta are pretty decent and run often. saigon is a cool city and has some interesting sights. enjoy
Thank you for your replies!
We will start planning the trip soon.
Just wandering, has anyone experience with Air Aisia? It looks cheap, and easy to fly around in Asia.
I flew Air Asia from BKK-HAN last Jan. Booked it while still in the US, showed my booking number when checking in, had no problems. It is no frills, but for the low price, I did not mind paying for drinks/food. I will fly them again when I return to Asia in April.
