No better place to go-only place to celebrate Chinese new year in Bangkok. Been a few years ago- it was great-but absolutely mobbed and really hot. Loads of stalls for fab food and traditional Chinese new year treats and gifts and the atmosphere is unreal-get there early and stay all day, the dragon parade start about 6 or 7pm we missed that but watched on Thai tv. Always going to go back but have not managed it yet.

Chinese New Year in 2007 falls on the 18 February, and the celebration goes on until the 15th day (full moon day) of the first month of the lunar calendar.

For those who will be in KL on the 15th day (4 March 2007) can go to the Chinatown (Petaling Street) in the afternoon where shops around the places will hire lion and dragon dance troupes to perform on the streets in front of their shops. There will be at least a few lion dance performances that involves acrobatic stunts on stilts - something that you don't get to see all the time!
