I am heading out to australia at the start of june 2007! I am going alone as all my friends have settled down or have full time jobs
Is there anyone going out about the same time or even from one of the scottish aiports?? I am terriefied and any company would be good! I am thinking about going to brisbane first.
I'm planning on going to Oz by myself and I am also veeeery scared!!! I'm flying out a bit earlier in April. Was thinking of flying into Melbourne for a while and working at the Emerald Backpackers which seems nice then flying up north. Or flying into Cairns/Brisbane first...I don't know!! Have absolutely no plans so far so might end up being up there at the same time as you Are you going to be working over there? I'm going to have to cos I'm not going to have that much money when I get there!!
you are welcome to tag along with us but we're heading to sydney first!
Hey buzzz...when you heading out there? You have any plans yet? I would love to hear what other people are doing as I don't have a clue! Don't want to plan too much...but I think planning where to fly into is kind of essential and I haven't yet worked that out
heading out about mid-june, starting in sydney and having a few weeks settling then possibly heading north to cairns or down to melbourne, not really planning much either!
i wudnt start in cairns if ur on ya own, depends on 1.wha hostel ya in an 2.wha people r there, the latter bein a lottery.its only a town thats by the reef and its only feature is the lagoon. bit shit i tink
To those of you that are frightened about coming to Australia by yourself, you shouldn't be. Australia is a very nice country and we have loads of people in the same sort of situation as you. You'll meet plenty of great people anywhere in Australia you go as long as it ain't right in the middle of a desert where hardly a single tourist goes. If you stick to the main touristy route (the East coast), then you are bound to meet loads of great people from day 1.
Bean84, if you are wanting to work as quickly as possible once you arrive in Australia, then by choosing Brisbane you are in the right region to hopefully get work very quickly, because if you don't find it in Brisbane you'll most likely get some quickly only an hour and a bit away in Surfers Paradise.
Travelling by yourself is the best way. At least that way you wont be stuck with people who end up not wanting to do what you are wanting, complaining when you want to do a certain thing they don't etc. Travelling with friends on a long trip is a sure way to wreck long term friendships and make a trip a lot less great. You'll have a great time.
