We are planning to stay here for a few days and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on accommodation (mid range) Is is best stay in the town or near the river?

Hi there. I stayed in Apples Guesthouse here, it's kind of top budget end. It's really social, has a lovely garden and restaurant and the staff are wonderful! It's also very clean and the rooms are well screened against mozzies. Would highly recommend. They also do a great cookery course...! I've heard it can be pretty noisy and insect infested near the river, but I didn't stay there, so....

Hello Jongriff

Stay at the Blue Star Guest House. They have double bungalows from 150Bahts. All the bungalows are good, and have bathrooms. If u can afford the wooden ones on stilts surrounded by Jungle vegetation, beside the river(650 bahts), they are the ones with the best location. You can sit on your balcony and look out over the river.

The town is small. Only around 2 KM wide, each way. The Blue Star Guest House is both in the town and beside the river. U can hire bicycle and motorbike rickshaws(30 to 50Bahts) to take u just about everywhere around the town, and to the Kwai River Bridge.

Hi, I stayed in the in a great place on the river called 'The Jolly Frog', and it was one of the best guest houses I went to in 5 months in Thailand. It has a range of different rooms to suit all budgets and a great restaurant serving both thai and western dishes. It also shows movies every night in the restaurant, and has hammocks and sunloungers over looking the river.
Its a really chilled out place and you could easily get stuck there for a week just relaxing. Have fun in Kanchanaburi, check out tiger temple and erawan falls.

I totally agree. We stayed at the Jolly Frog and thought it was amazing. The staff are really friendly, the food is cheap and really good, and the gardens that overlook the river are beautiful.
Would definately recommend a visit to Erawan Waterfalls too. x
