Search Bar

Travel Forums System Talk Search Bar

As I mentioned in a different thread, I think the Search bar could be made a bit more prominent. It's easy to overlook the bar on top there and it doesn't say anywhere what it's for. Maybe a little label on top saying 'Search the Forum' could help?

Just a thought...

Edit: I am referring to the Bar on top of the site when in the forum, I hadn't noticed the Search bar on the left until it's been mentioned... Duh... It's the Brandy, you know...

If I am correct, the search function area shows up differently in different browsers. If I remember correctly (and I may not be), when you were here and using your Mac laptop and Safari, the search function box was on the left of the page and has a little magnifying glass next to it. In the box, it says "Search". I'm sure it appears differently when you are using the PCs at work or internet cafe.

Sorry - I tend to forget that not everyone is working with a Mac and using Safari - hence, my comment in the "other" thread was misleading to a number of members. My apologies for confusing the hell out of people.

It made complete sense to me!

And I think Phil was quite clear that that was NOT the one he was referring to :)

Phil, not sure how well more text would sit up there in the forum search bar. It is a feature that comes back on different pages, for example the blogs, photography and reunions main pages, in the same layout (although those search bars then default, like the forum one to each specific area), and of course consistency is key. The one on the left searches the entire site, so a search for 'sydney' on the left hand side of the page will also bring up sydney mentions in the blogs and photography areas (among others). If you do the same search using the search bar at the top of the main forum page, it will only bring up mentions of sydney in the forum.

Although I agree it could be more prominent on the forum page, I'm not sure we want to make the search bar more prominent everywhere else... and we would really want to keep the styling similar in different areas.

How about the search bar also include some text inside it (similar to the left). Not sure if this could say 'search the forum' on forum pages and 'search the blogs' on the blog pages, but I'd think so. That'd be relatively non obtrusive, but still add that element of explanation that makes enough difference?

I think having some text inside the box would be great. It would make it clearer, even if it only said 'Search'.
It could be just me being a bit thick, but I think it would save a bit of confusion.
But then again, all my suggestions/observations are just 'for your consideration' like films submitted to the Oscars.

On a different issue - is there any emergency plan in place for when Isa reaches 10'000 posts and breaks TP? Some sort of P10K contingency plan? Other than the usual TP Bunker (aka. Development Workspace)?

I think by default the post after 9999 becomes 1. Vaguely remember setting it up like that so the number doesn't get too long and break our design :)

Wasn't there something about an automatic search warrant is being generated in the FBI/CIA/Interpol and KFC?
