i am currently living and working in sydney and want to know about the cool things to do in sydney that are slightly off the tourist trail ie.funky bars, places with amazing views, lesser known places, etc rather than the whole taronga zoo, opera house and bridge things that everyone goes to. any suggestions would be really appreciated!
You could go on an urban exploration expedition with the Sydney Cave Clan and see the underside of Sydney. They used to run newbies tours on a semi-regular basis, and you get to climb around in abandoned buildings and drains illegally. It's great! :D
What else? Go to the Parramatta Sydney Raceway and watch monster trucks, or see comedy at the Friend in Hand in Glebe (which is somewhat more on the beaten path but still good fun).
What about Bondi beach? I head thats pretty secluded.
Yey! Blue mountains are definitely worth a wander around - train to Katoomba where there is a really good YHA.
I also liked the coast walk from Bondi to Coogee via a whole range of beaches and inlets, lovely on a nice day. Just set off walking south from Bondi, you can't miss it!
Oh yeah the YHA in katoomba is excellent, one of the best i have stayed in.
