I will be travelling in the South East Asia region from July-Sept of this year & I was hoping to do a PADI certified diving course. My first choice was the Ko Lanta/Ko Phi Phi region but I have since read that choppy water in the area makes this a non-starter.
Are there any other viable options in the Andaman Sea or will I have to make my way over to Ko Tao.
Bear in mind also that I am open to diving somewhere outside of Thailand as I will be in costal regions of Vietnam & Cambodia.
You are going during the rainy season and it maybe difficult to have ideal conditions for your dive course. I would check conditions once there. Perhaps the Phuket side is not too bad and that should be your first choice. Many places to dive on the Andaman Sea. If that is not on, perhaps Koh Tao has better conditions. If not, Pattaya & Cha Am have dive operators as well. Pick the area with the best conditions.
Nha Trang has many reputable dive operators as well. Again, I would check once there before committing myself to any dive area.
jul to sept is not the rainy season in malaysia. in fact, it is a good time to dive at the islands on the malaysian peninsular east coast. u may want to consider pulau tioman. thats where i had my first dive. the waters are pretty ok for beginners, not choppy.
anyway, this year is going to be hot all year round. so i dont think you have to worry about rain.
