what's the minimum you'd suggest to go on a RTW trip?
(if you haven't got much of it)

what was the minimum people (you know) did it in?

80;)

No seriously, this is a nice one. Of course, during travel you want to see something so here is a possible way:

Netherlands, by train to Moscow and a visit 4days.
Moscow to Beijing with some stops: 2 weeks
China to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand: 6 weeks
Australia and New Zealand: 2 months
Several South American countries: 1 month.

And a flight back home. So around 5 or 6 months around the world with at least some time at places.

But it could be done faster theoretically of course.

I have done two RTW trips one which was 4 months and another which was 7 months.

On the 4 month trip I did very little longer distance overland travel when it involved going from one country to another even where it involved distances which were like London-Paris. Only exceptions was France-Monaco and Italy-Vatican City which well in my view is the same thing.

I bought a Star Alliance RTW ticket and then in Europe and North America I purchased other seperate flights. I made it so all my flights either landed very early in the morning or dpearted late and landed late so that I could make the most out of that full day instead of wasting half of it on a flight, bus or train.

On my last RTW trip (7 month), I bought a continent based One World ticket which was really great and I also bought a couple of seperate tickets like on Air Asia in South East Asia, another to Iceland and also an internal flight in hawaii so I could see more than just Honolulu. I also had quite a bit of overland travel (not anything like the trans-siberian, but I did have a section where my ticket stopped in Kiev/Ukraine and recommenced in Helsinki/Finland. That allowed me to travel overland from Ukraine-Russia-Latvia-Estonia and then to Finland. On that ticket I also got to fit Easter Island in when I was in South America and that place is just an amazing little island to visit for about 4 days.

Both trips were not at a super relaxing pace, but the 7 month one despite the fact it had about 100,000km of travel was at a far more relaxing pace and was far more amazing. So if you really want an amazing RTW trip and you plan on taking a lot of flights with some overland travel, well I'd say 6-7 months minimum. If you want a super rushed trip only covering a little of Asia, a lot of Europs, Egypt, A few cities in America and a few in Canada then you could rush it in 4 months, but you would expect to be up at about 6am every day and out by 7am at the latest to make sure you saw a lot of stuff in your brief time.

RTW in 80 days would be possible but extremely tiring everyday. I'm sure the Amazing Race doesn't go for 80 days but it does take a very scenic route trip around the world, but it sure wouldn't be as enjoyable as giving it longer. I'd love to take part in that show, travel to hopefully win $1,000,000 of which I could then hopefully travel for the rest of my life on if I was sensible.
