Hi, I'm planning on doing a volunteer trip this summer. I was wondering if anyone else has ever done this and if anyone has some advice. I am planning on going to Costa Rica and living with a family. I am working with an organization that is helping me arrange it. So if anyone has any stories or advice to share I would greatly appreciate it!
Hi, lot of foreing people do voluntering in Costa Rica, i know that its a very nice experience to them cause (and you will see) people in Costa Rica is very easy going and we love to share our culture con people from other countries... so... im glad that you are comming here... i cant help you with voluntering but if you have any question about the country, be my guess and fire away!!!
I actually work here for a volunteer organization - can I ask which company you are travelling with?
There is a lot of volunteer work here - you will meet many people in the same boat and doing dozens of varied projects.
I know that most projects really need the help, and they are very appreciative of what we do here.
Also it is a chance for you to immerse yourself in the local culture and living with a family will be a fantastic experience for you.
What kind of project are you hoping to do?
I wish you the best of luck - and thank you for giving up your time to volunteer in this beautiful country.
It irritates me that many companies want to charge an arm and a leg to connect volunteers with charitable organizations. I have found a website that lists charities so that they can be contacted directly if you are interested in volunteering for free or at a very low cost. If interested, you can check it out at: http://www.vaops.com
You can take a look to http://www.wwoof.org/, I don't know it by myself, but sounds interesting

Don't pay big money to volunteer via an 'agency',
these are some grass-roots volunteer programs in CR:
There is a directory of free and low-cost volunteer opportunities
