Off to Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore in april for a month with the girlfriend and will be in the above area for about 5 or 6 days so looking at booking accommodation this weekend but want to be in a decent location!!

Any info or advise people can give on Phuket/ Phi Phi islands would be great!!

Looking at phuket, I presume every resort is just a taxi ride from the airport?(I see it takes 40 minutes or so in a taxo or bus to get to phuket town and that seems a good bit away on the map!).

Could anyone reckon a good resort in phuket – so many to choose and will only be there for a couple of days so want to pick a decent one! Patong seems to be the biggest/liveliest but is it the best? What about phuket town?

We’ll also be going to the phi phi islands for 3 days. Which part of phuket does the ferry go from for there? (cant seem to find where it goes from on the web!!)

Sorry for all the questions (and some answers might be obvious for most of ye so apologies!!) but thanks in advance!!

Hi, if you could state your budget and what kind of place you're looking for i.e. quiet, lively, family, young etc. then I can help you with places to stay in Phi Phi & Phuket.

As for getting to Phi Phi from Phuket, there are 2 boats a day 8.30 & 1.30pm, it takes about an hour and a half from what I remember. You get this boat from the port in Phuket town. You can easily buy a ticket from a hotel & they will transport you to the pier.

Hey Laura,

Bare in mind that Phi Phi & Phuket don't really cater much for backpackers these days, accomadation is very expensive for Thailand, especially since the Tsumami in 2004, a lot of budget accomadation was wiped out. But there are still some budget choices.....

When arriving in Phi Phi the boat arrives in TonSai village, although this is where all the action is (bars, shops, restaurants etc.) it is the most expensive place. But if you want to stay where it's happening check out: Palm Bungalows-these are right on the beach, still not that cheap at 800baht in high season, but cheap compared to most believe me! There is also: J.J. Bungalows and J.J. Guesthouse in the same area. If you want to move some where a bit quieter check out out the bungalow outfits on long beach (there are quite a few), you can walk from tonsai village, but probably easier to get there by longtail boat. Long beach is cheaper, nicer, and quieter.

As for Phuket, Phuket town has quite a few guesthouses, but that means you'll have to travel to get to a beach. If you want to stay near a beach, check out the resorts of Kamala, Kata & Karon.

Lanta (on Khlong beach), Merry Bungalows, I almost stayed there, but they didn't have any air con rooms & it was very hot when I was there, but they were cheap from what I remember. Lanta is a lot cheaper then phi phi & phuket.
