I am going on a study abroad program this summer, to do my advanced russian class in St-Petersburg. I am leaving from Montreal, Canada, and I would like to travel a bit before I arrive in Russia. I just want to know, what is the cheapest way to get to St-Petersburg. I was planning on landing in London, then go to Madrid because I have some friends there, and then, I wanted to find a cheap flight to Russia.
What would be my best option?
Thank you very much!
Your best bet would be to break your flight in Germany. For example Madrid Munster, Munster St. Petersburg with Air Berlin.
Other German gateways are Dusseldorf and Cologne (with German Wings as an option).
There are also possibilities to fly to Moscow from Germany, sometims there are more flights to Moscow with choices out of several cities and airlines.
Check the websites of Air Berlin, German Wings, Tui Fly or LTU for all options. They are all budget airlines.
Thank you very much! I looked at the prices and it is perfect!

From London or Berlin you could just as easily fly to Riga or Tallin with easyjet and take the train rom there. The train is quite an expierence, expecially if you travel platzkartny (= 3rd class sleeping berths, lots of genuine russian folk and sto gram glasses of vodka!).
You can also take the train to St. Pete's from Berlin if you like.
