Hello everyone,

My name is Anna and I am travelling to Vietnam in the next week or so. I arrive on the 1st feb and leave on the 20th of feb which means i will be in Vietnam during Tet, it falls on the 18th of February this year.

From what i have read it can be difficult to get transport, hotels are very full and many services close down during this time. I haven't booked anything much and was planning on doing so when i got there.

I was wondering if anyone who has travelled during tet before could give me some advice? Do you think that this will be a problem?

Cheers,
Anna

Was in Vietnam last year for Tet. I was in Hanoi at the time and there wasn't much open & I couldn't get a train to my next destination (Da Nang), so I ended up flying instead.

If you are arriving Feb 1st, book transport in advance. It will be busy, but you should still find some where to stay.

I spent some time in Hoi An about 5 days after Tet and everything was mostly open, but beware of prices going up, I don't know if this is common practise or just a way to get an extra buck off people.

Anna,
Like Laura, I was in HaNoi during Tet last year as well. All the sights I wanted to see were closed for 4 days. See everything you want before Tet arrives. Hotels should be no problem as most VN people are staying with their families, not hotels. Not many restaurants were open, but I found 2 and just kept going back. The 'open tour' buses are generally not used by locals. I had no problem going to Hue just after Tet via bus. The trains will be fully booked, so that option is gone. Check with the many travel shops and book transport out on the day you need to leave.

I have some HaNoi photos taken over Tet in my gallery. Good Luck
