Hi,

I am going to Thailand for 3 weeks, Australia for 3 weeks, Fiji, then USA for 3 weeks. I am going to take my mobile phone, but not taking my sim card. I was thinking about buying a sim card whilst in Thailand (Pay as you go). Im not sure if my phone is unblocked and my current network is Vodafone. Can I buy a Vodafone Pay as you Go Sim card in Thailand easily enough? Also, would this work in Australia, etc. Is it cheap to make calls back to the UK

Any help / advice would be great

Thanks

I'm with vodafone, brought my phone and simcard to Oz, it worked fine, though a bit awkward to top up. In New Zealand though I could recieve calls but not make them as Vodafone Ireland and Vodafone New Zealand don't have a roaming agreement(at least they did not then - 2005). Asked in a Vodafone shop about buying a sim but since my phone wasn't unlocked I could not use it. I would check that out before I go if I were you. Pay a visit to the Vodafone site, check out their passport option and email them to check out the countries you're going to. If they say you can't use it then believe them.

Dont know if this is of any use but the mobile phone company THREE has just got rid of its roaming charge in loads of countries?

Why don't you just bring your uk mobile with you then you will be contactable and then just buy call cards for the rest of the countries, Call cards would work out cheaper then buying sim cards. Also check with vodafone to see if you can get free web texts, then you can use that as a option.
