Hi guys,

I am hoping some more experienced people could give me some advice on budget for my trip. We are off to south east Asia in September, funds are pretty tight and I was wondering how much is just enough!

The plan is a circular route
Thailand (Islands - to Bangkok) - 3 weeks
Cambodia - 2 weeks/ month
Vietnam - 3 weeks
Laos - 3 weeks
Thailand (North) 3 weeks

Then we will fly to OZ and start our new life for a year (where we will work, so no budget info is needed for this leg of the journey)

While in Asia we plan to stay in cheap accommodation, with a few days in mid-range when we are tired. We will eat from markets and self cater with a few treat evenings at restaurants. Overall we want to do it on the cheap and cheerful side, so how much cash do people think we will need to budget?

All advice would be gratefully received

$30US a day should get you what you want if you travel the cheap way, but you could probably get away with a slightly smaller budget if you tried.

When you don't move around and don't do a tour or so, there could be days with a budget of maybe just 15 dollar. That means, staying in the cheapest places, just eating some streetfood and the usual drinks and so. Of course, that means just staying in one place (beach, town or so) and not a lot of visiting and transport.
