Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Suggestions with my itinerary?

I am set to travel S. America from April 1st to April 16th w/ my girlfriend we have both treveled a lot in Japan, Australia, Europe. I have just started researching and think I have a pretty good grasp of what we would like to do. I am looking for suggestions from anyone as to other considerations (beautiful places along the way) or any criticizm on what I have come up with so far. Also if we will be able to fit this all in within the time frame. She speaks spanish well, I have taken 6 years of classes but have never been put to the test in an actua spanish speaking environment.

If you click my profile there is a map. Will 2 weeks be enough time is my main question I don't mind being on the move sleeping on buses and so forth, if I end up in a beautiful area id like to just beable to stay a day pr two.

We fly in and out of Lima:
First step is to take train/bus to Cuzco do the inca trail 3 day 2 night.
Then Cuzco-Arequipa-Tacna (Would like to know if it possible to fit in Titicacca) here.
Tacna-Arica (loks nice maybe a day or 2 here)-San Pedro de Atacama-La Sarena-Santiago:
Santiago - possible 5 hr trip to Pichilemu for surf and back to Santiago then on to Mendoza (defenitely a day or 2 here) and Buenos Aires. Most likely we will fly back to Lima from Buenos Aires. I have friends in Buenos Aires to stay with.

We are on a budget, the less spent the better, We plan to do Lima to Buenos Aires all by bus.

Please let me have some feedback! Good or Bad

2 weeks won't be enough, even if you would sleep lots of nights on buses. I will try to put a itinerary here that might fit in, but Lima-BA in two weeks is a challenge anyhow.

Day 1 arrive Lima
Day 2 arrive Cuzco
Day 3-5 Inca trail
Day 7 arrive in Uyuni, Bolivia
Then a 2 or 3 day trip to San Pedro de Atacama from ther.
Day 10 arrive in San pedro
Day 11 arrive in Salta, northern argentina and bus it to BA for 20 hours more.
That leaves a day for BA, or do you have more time over there?
Of course you can also go from Cuzco to Arequipa and then head south to San Pedro and from there to salta-BA.
But the La Serena-Santiago-Mendoza part is really too much.

Have fun! Michael

Welcome.
If you take the route through bolivia you can fit in Titicaca pretty easy. For example from Puno, but better from Copacobana. By the way, in Copacobana don't step into taxis or minivans offered to you, there have been some kidnappings. Not to scare you, just to warn you. It's pretty safe everywhere.
Do you really want to do the Inca trail by the way? Otherwise you could just do a daytrip to Machu Picchu for example. It saves a day or so.
And another possibility would be not going to San Pedro, but do a tour from Uyuni to Tupiza in southern bolivia and from there continue to Salta. This way you see the highlights of southern peru and the bolivian altiplano, and save chile for another time.

i did the buenos aires to lima trip last year in a little less than one month, and I took a BA-Salta and Cuzco-Lima flight. I focused on some parts, so it didn't feel as rushing it, but i would have like more time. Maybe check my trip for an idea about how much time to spend everywhere.

except for the flight BsAs - Lima, your plan seems fine to me. But why this totally unnecessary short-distance flight? Better buy open-jaw tickets, and fly straight back to the states from BsAs, saves a hell of a lot of fuel on the extra landing.

Much appreciated I am looking into this the cost to alter our previous flight back to the US may be less thna the cost of an additional flight.

I think if we shorten time at MP, and do this we will have the time, to do the original route no problem.
