Hey everyone, I plan on taking a trip from Mexico to Panama in about a 4 months span, taking buses and taxis's, and living on a budget. I had intended to leave in June but one of my friends has bailed and the other is "ify" to say the least, so now the date is set for September. If anyone is going to be on similar paths let me know, maybe we could meet up, or just share some information. Let me know!!
Some advice, if on a tight budget...don't take "taxi's" except late at night in large cities when no public transportation is running or your budget soon will be broken! Renting a Car is even far cheaper than a long taxi ride!
No need to worry you will met plenty of travelers on the gringo trail through Mexico to Panama. It is a pretty popular route, get yourself a LP guidebook and give it a shot. If you get sick of all the travelers just go to somewhere which is not really featured in the guide book to much, will be less tourists there for sure.
