Hi Oslaue
I've known that you are planning to take a trip to Vietnam. And Hanoi may be one of your destinations? I think some infomations about our organisation(HanoiKids) would be very helpful for you.
1.How
Just go with us,Hanoikids
2.What is Hanoikids
It's an un-benefit and non-government organisation. We are young Hanoians. We are students from different universities in Hanoi. We are Hanoi lovers. We are proud that we know every corners in our Hanoi, the city of peace. And we want to make friends with foreigners,as well as introduce our city to all of you! We do it absolutely FREE.Just as a friend shows his friends the city he lives,he loves with all its history, culture and people manners.
3.What will you gain?
By going with us, you will not only view tourist spots(Hanoi natural beauties, historical and cultural spots ) but also "taste" a vietnamese's ordinary life .There are lots of things in Hanoians lives in specific and Vietnamese lives in general that you will never know if you get a tour from a tourist office or only with maps and guide books,I'm sure.In addition, you can feel rhymth of contemparary life in Vietnam through young vietnamese and their styles.
4.Why do we do this?
You wonder why we do it without any fee?First of all,we'd like to gian English conversations with foreigners, especially with native people to improve our English speaking skills. Moreover,we have a hope to promote our city, our country images to people all the world with all its beauty.

Just to be clear, we have absolutely NO affiliation with these guys. I have seen the article in question and I think they quite clearly state that they sent 'hundreds of SPAM emails', a practice that we of course strongly don't approve of and actively work against, let alone want to be affiliated with!

I don't know if there's a catch or not, but considering the mention of spam emails in that article, I would really like to know who sent you the message (flag it as spam preferably)

HanoiKids is a voluntary group of some young Hanoian. You asked "anyone know of them"? So, I do!

You wonder what "they" catch, don't you? Simply, they want to get in touch with English-speaking foreigners to improve their English. You know that there's nothing better to practise speaking skill than talking to a native speaker. It's the original reason why HanoiKids was established. Morever, they want to show their culture, their lifestyles, their points. They want to make more friends.

Some of you is right to say nothing is free int the world. They just catch the thing which is not important to you but is to them.

That might well be, but what we don't like is that they openly admit to spamming people on Travellerspoint (see the aforementioned article). Naturally that is against our terms and conditions and will see them banned....

Yes, you're right! It's not good to spam. They might go wrong when they decided to spam people.

But if you come to Hanoi, try contact them to make a free and interesting ( in my opinion ) trip. They'll show you around. They are natives.

In case you want to be served professionally as a 5-star tourist, I don't think you should call them. It does not suit HanoiKids. But if you want to discover every corner of Hanoi with natives as their friend, don't waste any time to turn on your computer and send them an e-mail.

PS: They can give you suggestions about accommodation.
