Vietnam to Thailand by land?

Travel Forums Asia Vietnam to Thailand by land?

I'm going to be in Vietnam in a couple of weeks and the plan is to go to Thailand after, however I'd love to spend a few days in Cambodia so I'm thinking of going by train or bus through Cambodia.
Has anyone here done this? I've been in the area before but pretty much all the traveling was by air so, yeah.
I am sure a train going from Vietnam to Phnom Penh and from there to Bangkok is nothing but wishful thinking but I'm sure there has to be a way.

Harlekin,
I have done this route many times and there is no train between HCMC and Phnom Penh. Many of the travel shops in HCMC will be happy to sell you a bus or bus/boat ticket to PP. There are several ways to the border, but the easiest & cheapest is to take the Sinh Cafe/Capitol bus; $6 or $12. For $6, you get out at the border at Moc Bai/Bavet, walk into Cambodia, sit around a restaurant, bus to PP. This takes roughly 8-10 hours. Or you can take a straight through bus for $12, saves a few hours. The bus/boat option is more scenic. Bus to Chau Doc, boat up the Mekong to PP, $10-12. Check with the travel shops in HCMC about times/prices.

You will need several days in PP to see al the sights, then up to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat if you have time, then taxi/bus to BKK from Siem Reap. Or go down to Sihanoukville for some beach time, boat to Koh Kong, van to Trat, bus to Pattaya or BKK.

Harlekin, I have many photos of this trip in my gallery. Send me a PM if you want additional advice.
