Everyone has a right and personal choice to make decisions, as he/she thinks fit in different circumstances. Where would you draw the line, in your case?
Starting off with the first scenario:
Business complimentary gifts- where would you draw the line in accepting/ giving business compliments to business acquaintances and think it is shifting from 'compliments' into the 'bribe' territory? Calendars/diaries/desk items, company products/hampers, gift/cash vouchers, expensive gifts....
My opinion; when you want to achieve something in business you need to kiss ass. Its all about the network, the bigger the better. So you better give and also take whenever you think that is profitable for future (business) relations.
So, Wouter, if you were a businessman, you wouldn't draw a line in accepting/ giving business gifts? Hmm...
Since you didn't give the next scenario, here goes:
New experiences - You are travelling on holiday and you are keen to have new experiences (eg: sky-diving, learning to tango, eating fried ants or durians...) where would you draw the line to new experiences?

yep, eating durian would be a line. Though I'm told it tastes better than it smells. Ants are ok though.....
