Hey guys! I"m planning a trip down to Los Angelos to visit a friend who is currently on a round the world trip. We ar egoing to spend some time in LA, then from there head to Vegas. Just curious if anyone has information on the cheapest way to do this? I was thinking the bus would be much cheaper than flying? Also, how many hours would it take by bus?
The bus takes 6-8 hours to go from LA to Vegas, depending on stops. Most private cars do it around 5 hours. R/T fare is between $60-83 depending on date and advance purchase. You may check car rental prices and see if renting a car for several days is cheaper than both of you buying r/t bus tickets.
Flying is not too bad if you can advance purchase your tickets or get an Internet special. Go to Southwest Airline's website and see about your dates. Then you know costs for flying. You do have to get to LAX and from McCarran airport once in LV. That adds to your expenses. A rental car maybe a better way to go.
PM me if you have any questions on Vegas. Mike
When I was in Los Angeles in early October 2006, the busfare from Los Angeles-Las Vegas cost $43US oneway or $53US return using Greyhound. It cost the same if you got it from the Hollywood depot or the Downtown depot, but more buses left from the downtown one than the Hollywood one. It took about 6 hours to do the journey including a fairly long stop at the Barstow depot for a lunch break.
Don't rule out flying as you can sometimes get good deals. I just checked Travelocity before this post and found one-way LA-Las Vegas fairs for as little as US $44 with advance purchase. Cheaper than bus but you have to deal with both LAX and McCarren Airports. Also you'll have taxes and fuel surcharges added.
Great, thanks for the info guys!
Consider Southwest Airlines. They fly out of LAX and ONT to Las Vegas. Shop fares on their website, and you won't spend all day riding a bus.
It might be over budget but why not rent one of those Yee-Ha hillbilly pickup trucks and drive. Maybe one of those things you have to do once
