Berwick is about 1 hour outside of Melbourne city centre (the CBD) - around 40km I think. It's on the Pakenham train line (Connex) a bit further on from Dandenong.

Berwick - I'm sorry to hear that. I live about half an hour towards the city from Berwick and from what I know, their is absolutely nothing to do there. The quicker you get out of there the better! It is about 40km from Melbourne CBD by direct line, but of course much longer if you go by road/train.
If you have access to a car their might be a few things you could do in the area like visit the Dandenong Ranges but nothing exciting. It's is also going to be getting cold in April so bring some winter clothes.
My advice would be to get on the train and go into the city.
Good luck!
