If you want to see something different (mind you, the rest of the Netherland is VERY diffent from Amsterdam) just consider Leiden, a lovely city just a few minutes away (by train).

Dear fellow guru(s),

I'm now in a dillemma.

(1) As I only have a maximum of 3 days after our company trip to Vienna, would these 3 days be able to get us to and fro Amsterdam ? What would be the cheapest mode of transport to get from Vienna to Amsterdam.

I have checked various train schedules : Bahn and Eurail both of which do not provide the fare from Vienna to Amsterdam (since I'm an international guest).

Can anyone approximate the cost of the train ticket to get from Vienna to Amsterdam (preferably a night train)?

(2) Due to our international flight schedule - limited (i.e. to fly home), we may not be able to visit Amsterdam at all without costing us a BOMB.

What then, would you suggest we spend the next 3 days? We would have visited Prague, Budapest, Salzburg, Vienna by then. Please give me more details of the place as we're all first timer to this part of the world. :(

Thank you all in advance. Await your replies......

You could try an overnight train, or check out transavia.com Dutch airline, with really cheap flights.
As for A Dam, You could try out:
Mikes Bikes, and tour the city by bike, they have a website.
CanalBus, you buy a day pass and ride the canals all over the city. They have 15 or so pickup/drop off docks. Maps included, and you can ride the canals to each location.
Check out hostelworld.com, every hostel in the world there.
Good luck to ya, and go if you can!!!!

Flying Pig hostel is where it is at.

Great location, good fun, dirt cheap but not dirty, and best local beer in the city.

as for where to go, the Heineken museum tour is ok, as is the Amsterdam Arena one.

The red light district is just fascinating in its self, unlike anywhere else in the world - some great little bars and shops just off it.

Check Skyeurope (.com probably), they have cheap tickets from Bratislava, only a short ride from Vienna.
