Sony's buyout of Minolta DSLR manufacturing supposedly promised compatibility with Minolta AF lenses, which are cheaper than the Canon L series. You may want to research that option.

This was the reason I bought the camera. Had my old minolta plus lenses. And yes, they do fit :)

Anxzio, from what I read the Sony A100 compares closer to the NikonD70 than the Canon EOS 350. Not sure where the eos400 falls in regards to this (but I think similar to the d70/a100) as this might have been my choice if it had already been launched back when I bought my camera.

If you are not planning to buy a whole set of lenses with your camera, then I still maintain the Sony is great value for a good price. If you want to continuously be expanding your setup, then probably I'd go for a Canon or Nikon (actually I'd go for Nikon because I think it has a cooler ring, but no other real reason ). It just depends on your plans for the future....

Sony is Minolta from what I understand....Sony basically got the lens mount (and the lenses) in the deal with Minolta. I hadn't heard of any incompatibility problems.

[ Edit: added clarification ]

Well, that's good to know. I have 3 Minolta lenses that I hope to use with a Sony DSLR someday.

i got the sony a100. it's really easy to use. but sometimes if the camera doesn't aout. cstch focus you just got to switch it to mf or just move away from the subject to get a better focus. that's like the only thing i don't like about that cam. it's an easi camera to use. good for a hardcore ama. only thing that sux is that i can't find a camera bag anywhere that would fit that sony plus a mounted sigma 100-300 , i only see them bags that fit a mounted 200. got any ideas about a bag like that?
