Don't know if Im posting this in the right forum but Ill give it a go anyway. My friend has suggested some volunteer work in cambodia. The thing is I dont speak any language except english and french which I dont think would do me much good over there. I just wanted to know if speaking the language was a requirement to volunteer abroad or not.
Theres many different volunteer programs all over the world which carry out different purposes, such as teaching and wildlife conservation. Many of the volunteer organisations, require some sort of fee to participate in their programs, which alot of people dont understand. 'paying to volunteer, why?'. The fee's basically cover administration costs, living expenses(housing volunteers), and wages for the organisations employee's.
I volunteered in Thailand, for two months last year and had an unbelievable time, teaching English to kids of all ages. Like you I couldnt speak any of the Language, but this wasnt a problem and by the time I left I had picked up alot of useful phrases.
The organisation I volunteered for is called Travel-to-Teach, and i would recommend them highly and it is also alot cheaper than all of the other organisations, i looked at. Check it out www.travel-to-teach.org
Hope this helps
