Hi!

My friend and I are heading off on a gap year starting this July and we are really desperate to leave and travel but pretty clueless about some stuff at the moment!

After traveling in India we are flying into Sydney and getting an internal flight up to Cairns. From here we hope to travel down the coast to Brisbane and we were wondering about the best way to go about this and acommodation on the way.

We are flying into Auckland and working and traveling in New Zealand on both the north and south islands for the majority of our trip. would it be a good idea to rent/buy an campervan and how easy is it to do this? From here we are going to Nadii in Fiji.

if there is any advice anyone has on the best things to see and experience in any of these places it would be great to hear from you or any advice about traveling and staying here in general as its our first time and it would be great to hear from anyone doing anything similar!

thanks! x

Hello,

it's my first time travelling aswell, although I don't actually have any travel experience to give you, ive been told to simply search on the net for hostels, just type in "hostels in sydney" or wherever you plan to stay etc and you should find a whole list, it might sound simple but just type in campervan hire australia etc in the net and you should find some useful sites -i found www.statravel.com quite useful for hostels.

Sorry theres not much help there im preety clueless aswell.
heheh

Happy travellin!
Ashleigh xxxx

Hiya Im doing a similar thing, flying in to Cairns mid March and travelling east coast.

Transport- the way I'm doing it is on the Greyhound Bus service. A 3000km pass allows you travel from Cirns to Sydney, with as many stops as you like, hop on hop off service.
If your just going to brisbane then you wont need a 3000km pass. Try greyhound website and have a look.www.greyhound.com.au/

Also travelling New Zealand in May, again doing both North and South islands, there's going to be three of us so weve been told to rent a car, but then were all 19yrs so were not old enough to rent... so were thinking of buying a car, will get freedom aswell as saving money on bus passes. (as i have heard public transport in general is shocking in NZ!)

Top things iv'e been reccomended to do in Oz:-
-Fraser Island and Whitsun islands
-Great barrier reef
-Noosa, Gold coast etc
-Cape Tribulation

Top things to do Nz:-
-Queenstown- Bungee jumps, jet boat, white water rafting!! etc
-Milford Sound
-Lake Taupo (skydive?!)
-Watomo caves

Hostels - www.hostelsworld.com (real good site)

Theres most of the things that i am planning to do.. any more suggestions would be good,

Have a great trip,

Tom
