At the moment my travel plans will lead me to Australia in June for a couple of months and then onto New Zealand. I was wondering what the weather is likely to be like. Will I miss the experience of Oz if it isn't their summer time? Do the hostels reduce their rates during these months?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Hi, I live in melbourne so I can tell you that in winter here, it can suck. but thats only melbourne and probably tassie coz we're down the bottom.
But the rest of Australia has better weather all-year-round. I mean, it could be cold and rainy here in the city but if you drove 2hours north it might be nice and sunny.. keep heading north and it gets better!
So I can't imagine that you'll "miss" anything being winter. It'll probably be a bit wetter and only a few degrees below the normal in the top half. You'll love it dude!

I arrived into Australia in April and spent 2 and half months travelling up the east coast. The weather was fine in most places but we did get a good bit of rain along the way. We started in Sydney and headed north to get the best of the weather. There were odd cold days along the way but we still managed to have plenty of beach days and by the time we reached Cairns we were in temperatures of late 20s...

I came back to Sydney in August and it was chilly enough for the first while. 10-15 degrees most of the time. Not really beach weather.
