I'm planning a trip with two or three friends (18 year old students, male) - inter-railing for 16 days round portugal, spain and morocco.
As this will be our first backpacking trip, and our first trip to this region (esp. Morocco), can anyone point out some useful websites, or give us any nuggets of wisdom that will come in handy when visiting these regions? Even better, perhaps you've been to these regions before or live there, and can recommend sites to see, places to stay, etc?
Thanks very much,
I travelled the Iberian Penninsula for a month last year.
Loved the Algarve in Southern Portugal! Lagos is a fun party town too.
And i strongly recommend Seville - southern Spain - about 4-5 hour bus ride from Faro in Southern Portugal.
Just be careful when taking the ferry into Morocco. Alot of hustlers and thieves waiting for u in the Port towns.
and be warned - its unbearable HOT all the time - even at night.
Hi, I'm portuguese and besides knowing Portugal reasonably well I've been several times to Spain and Morocco.
This may be too late for you (but sorry, I just saw this post)
Still, if you want to go to morrocco I found this great website with great places to stay at, not too expensively. It has a good listing of "ryads", wich is the morrocan equivalent of a guesthouse. I stayed in some listed here, very very charming.
If you go to chefchaouen, in the north, stay at Casa Hassan, simply spectacular and not too expensive.
The top places to go in morocco, for me, are Marrakech and Essaouira. In Essaouira you can easily relax and have some time at the beach, Marrakaech is more the frenetic, busy town, still with the genuine side of morroco with all the bazaars and street activity (the traffic, the people selling or performing some kind of trick, etc, all in harmony)
Sites and places to stay in Portugal, I could recomend you a lot specially in Lisbon, so please post back if you still need some help
Hope to help
