Myself and my fiance are planning a month long trip to New Zealand, with a stop in Fiji on the way back. We are also hoping to get married while we in New Zealand.

I have never planned a trip like this before and to be honest I don't have a clue were to start. If anything I am more prepared for organising a wedding which seems strange!!

So, do I go for a company who can plan my flights, accomadation, activities etc or should I look for everything individually. How can I get the cheapest deals! As you can tell I am a bit of a novice at this but I recently went away and seem to have causght the travelling bug, I can't wait to travel all over and I am sure once I have planned one trip it will be much easier, I just need some tips!!

Thanks guys

I hope u sort out ur papers etc. and get information about getting married in NZ before you go there.

At least your documents will b in the right language, but in general people think getting married overseas is easy (which doesn't have to b the case at all!!!)

I'd go for planning each component seperately. Book flights on the net so you can find the cheapest deal. Some airlines will offer packages eg. flights + a couple nights accommodation, or flights + rental car, so check these options out. Research activities available, figure out what appelas to you, but leave this part of your trip totally open - you'll want to make thse decisions spur of the moment, and you'll value the flexibility when it comes to it.

Good luck with your trip, and of course with the marriage

I spent last year planning a month long trip to Australia & New Zealand and we are mid planning another Australian trip for Feb 08.

What l found easiest for me - plan your long haul flights & stop overs first then you can fill in the middle bit quite easily. Note down where you would like to see then get the maps out and see which route is the most accessible for you!

Post questions on TP forums and you will get help there are a lot of TP'ers very knowledgable about New Zealand!

Sorry l cant help with the wedding question - but good luck with that - perhaps contacting the NZ embassy local to you would be a start with information and what documents are needed?

Iwould say the same for most trips. Do it all yourself - you save a lot of money and are as free as you want to be.

But.....maybe for a wedding, you might want the reassurance of having booked more flexible tickets with reputable carriers. It depends on how easygoing you are. If you have an e-ticket and the flight is delayed or you have a mini-disaster or something, then you dont really get any extra help from the airline in question.

I still think that plannign the trip yourself is a major fun part. If you have the time to source cheap flights and look for the most suitable kind of accommodation then I would do it that way! :)
If you want hassle-free organisation then maybe go for a company.

If you want to get a fare to NZ or RTW fare contact STA travel - very helpful usually and good fares. Alternatively, if you want to buy single flights, just get a single fare with STA travel to NZ and then once you get here you can usually get cheap deals on the net to Fiji with AirNZ or other airlines. I'd recommend getting a RTW with a few stops on it.

Pssst: Do it yourself
