Hello Steve

Unfortunately, one could post warnings like this for just about every place, in the world.

Why can't a girl walk alone in any city?

Women could walk alone, in any city, if eveyone was a woman.
Even if these women were naive and stupid, with their brains, in their pants and all the other above adjectives and nouns used in this thread, about women.

But yes, I do agree, that we as women, do need to take precautions when travelling in other countries, and in our home countries, even sometimes in our own homes.

i think there is more of chance of a woman been a victim of crime than a man.

rape is the biggest worry. for a man they are naturally physically bigger and stronger than a female and are more capable of looking after themselves. of course they still need to take precautions too.

women are more likely to be raped than a man , but i would`nt say they are more likely to be a victim of a crime. Men can easily be in more danger than a women in other ways . I got the living crap kicked out of me the last year in my own street by 6 lads , and i`ll prob go to SEA this year and have no trouble at all . This sort of shit can happen anywhere in the world. You just have to take precautions and limit your chance of getting Into trouble , male or female ..

Every time I walked around Luang Prabang (as well as any town in Laos) at night, some guy was always trying to sell me ganja. I've found every country that I've visited in Southeast Asia to be very, very safe. But as others have noted, there are no guarantees and it pays to be alert and prepared.
One thing to keep in mind for anybody walking around at night: it's dark out there. That's to say, you won't find many streetlights in Laos. Same goes for Myanmar/Burma and parts of Cambodia. If you are concerned about creepy characters lurking in the shadows, bring a flashlight/torch with you when you venture out at night.

ok let me get technical.

there are more odds for a woman than a man been a victim.

no one is going to rape me. any woman who wishes to do so is very welcome to it.

i am physically stronger! and bigger than most asians.
asians would need to hunt in packs to take me on, with a woman that is not the case.

ok if they have weapons then that is a different ball game all together no matter how big or strong one may be.

lets be realistic here, if i was a thief i would much prefer to rob a woman. i know mentally
they cant rise to the occasion in taking me on physically or even running after me. if she can then she is
one scary and brave woman. and probably is not even a woman!. no one wants to be a hero...but men always want to be.
men dont think when in certain life and death situations. they react on impusle. the majority of women do. that is the major difference.

having said that about the women if i was a thief and see a total male nerd on his own then one would rob him too!

all in all its how you present yourself, but there is very few nerds out there. one has to look the part,
be confident, act like they know what they are doing, were they are going. dont look cluless in unfamilar territorys.

paul j - im aware that in the uk in particular in england street kids hunt in packs. i lived there myself and in lots of small towns theres kids in gangs of 6-10 just hanging about looking to see who there next victim might be. sadly i have only ever seen this in england in all the countrys that i have travelled to. and what happened to you is very unfortunate and probably 1 in 100,000 chance of been a victim of this crime...sadly you were this 1. as they say. you were probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.

of course you get gangs everywhere but i saw lot more of it in england and they were up to no good. when i was in the usa i saw it too but they just minded there own business and never looked twice at me.

Mr Gecho

I think the point, is that the subject of this thread is completely unbalanced. It warns us(women) about men in Luang Prabang.

Since women are in danger of rape and violence from men, of all nationalities and in all countries, what is the purpose of this thread?
Why not warn us about, New York, or London, or just about any place else?

If i want to think the worst, I would say that the purpose of this thread is to rub our noses in the fact, that we cannot enjoy the same freedom, in the world as men can. We know this already, so there is not need to warn us or inform us.

men also beware!

always walk in company.

Okay, I agree that everyone should take precautions when travelling and I myself am gonna be travelling alone for the next 4 months so I'm trying to read up on every safety issue I should have in mind..

I usually don't get lost but I have, once I took a wrong turn looking for an ATM and ended up wandering the streets of a foreign city for about 4 hours in the middle of the night with hookers on one hand and junkies on the other.
People get lost, period. It dosen't make them stupid and it dosen't mean they didn't study where they were going... shit happens and all we can hope for is that the same dosen't happen to us..

um okay and i'm editing that 'cause the quote isin't right, i was refering to the 2nd post on this thread...
