Is OzIntro really worth £500?

I ask as looking at the site it all looks like stuff you could sort out pretty easily yourself. And it's really easy to meet people in Australia without the kind of 'organised fun' that the package offers.

Just adding this as some of the posts on this thread read as something of a recommendation and I'd encourage independent-minded travellers to think twice before buying into the package - work out which options you really want and whether it's going to be worth it to you.

Or there's also Travellers Contact Point who offer a bunch of things (airport pickup, first 2 nights accommodation, mail holding - check that link for full list!) for AU$260 (about £120 with current exchange rate).

I used them when I came here on a working holiday, and found it a good way to go if you're a bit uncertain about arrival & the initial period. Certainly, it's very easy to meet other people in youth hostels in Sydney - particularly ones where working holidaymakers tend to stay for a while including the YHA in Glebe which I found to be a good place! Convenient for the city (therefore for work and sightseeing), and Glebe is a nice area as well.
