Hi everybody, I want to spend a year in Australia, probably in Melbourne but, to have time and money enough to travel around the country, I have to work.
Could you give me some address of websites about visas, jobs to foreigners and so on?.
I am graphic and interior designer, I know that Australia is an open and warm country to foreigners but, is it a difficult field to get a job to a foreigner in Australia?

Thank you.

Yes and no. It's quite easy to get minimum wage jobs, and it's still quite doable to get 'real' jobs such as in design, but you have to excel in what you do, and be prepared to go the extra mile, because all your competition will be local and have the benefit of being able to build up long-lasting relationships with the people who hire them, while you'll be gone again next year. (On the plus side, your biggest benefit will be that you're a traveller, and a very sizable percentage of people in Australia used to travel themselves as well, so they're more likely to want to give you a break.)

I wouldn't know where to look for interior design work (I suspect your best bet would be to just send your CV to any- and all interior design studios you can find in Melbourne once you're there), but for the graphic design side, I'll send you a private message with a pointer to some place that might be beneficial.

Since my question is similar, I'd like to apply to IT jobs so that I can get more than just the minimum wage.

Any knowledge on location of tech-hub, contacts or specialist sites would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sander,

I'm Jackman from Malaysia. I found your post with google'ing randomly looking for graphic design jobs in Australia. The reason for doing so is because me and my wife might shift to Melbourne, Australia due to my wife's relocation of works from her company. Since then, I would like to know if it's hard to look for a job over there and what's the procedure to do so? It'll be glad if you could give some opinion and suggestion upon these. Thanks in advance.
