Best way to spend 2 days in Montego Bay, Jamaica?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Best way to spend 2 days in Montego Bay, Jamaica?

jshah has indicated that this thread is about Jamaica

I will be in Montego Bay for 2 days in April (7 & 8) with 3 other friends. What would you recommend doing? We are 25-27 years old and we really enjoy outdoor adventures, beaches and partying. Would you recommend going to Negril for a day? If yes, whats the best mode of transport to get there and back.

Thank you for your help. ;)

Hi Jshah,
I am not sure about Motego Bay right now...a lot of road works is happening there at the moment which makes a bit challenging to move around freely..Hopefully that will be completed by the time you get here. I would recommend Negril right now if your looking for fun in the Sun.

Nuff regards

Negril is a nice place to visit if you don't mind every single male in the whole town being a hustler trying to sell you drugs of every sort but mostly dope. The sunset there is better then anywhere else I have ever been. I don't know if it will be able to be done if a lot of road works are currently going on, but going to a tour shop in town (Montego Bay) and getting a tour to Dunns River Falls was good and very beautiful thing to do. That was the best site I saw in my brief stay in Jamaica.

Also be sure to have a place either booked or at least an address to lie about on the form you get on the plane. If you don't they are really really bad. I have travelled extensively almost everywhere I've had no bookings and had no problems, but Montego bay was very very different. I was taken out the back to an office, questioned for ages and they only let me through once the moron out the back had booked a place for me to stay so they were satisfied I wasn't going to be sleeping on the streets or whatever dumb reason they have. Then as soon as I left I got the driver to call up and cancel for me! It was worse than anything I'd experienced even in America and god only knows why considering I amm not terrorist look alike or don't hold an afghanistan, iraq or other middle east countries passports.

To get to Negril, two of you could get there by taxi for the same price as one, but it isn't that overly cheap and well drivers in Jamaica are very crap at the best of times. There is a bus that I read about in a post on either this travel forum or the lonely planet one which was to be booked and I think it was $20.00US per person. Someone else on here might be able to tell you the details of the site or maybe a google search for tourist bus Montego Bay-Negril.

Have a great trip.

Hello,
I hope you enjoy your stay in Jamaica when you get here.

Coming to Jamaica and getting around are not complicated things to do. As with any country take some time to get to know he place and the people. I know that time is not something you have much of so on your first day find a reliable source (person) and spend some time talking to them about how things are - talk to more than one person and compare notes re: trasnport cost best and safest way to travel, etc. Try a professional person and some one in the tourist board ...

Montego Bay or Mobay for short, is a resort town and is very touristy, so you can have your sea and sun fun there but not much more. I would say negril is worth a trip and while there you should visit the Royal Palm Reserves. The same too for Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios. For real adventure you should try hiking through the Cockpit Country. Mobay is not Jamaica and if you can afford the travel to Kingston it's well worth the effort.

If you need a place to stay while there I would recommend Sunset Beach
It is close enough to the airport that you should be able to maximized your time on the island. I would definitely do the Martha Brae River rafting.
