Hello Praspekt.

I met some girls, in Thailand. They used to work on curise ships. Apparently, there are often jobs available. To work in shops on the ship or in the casino u dont need any qualifications. The ship company gave them any training they needed.
If u want to go as a paying passenger on a cargo ship, I have heard, that it is incredibly expensive.

It is expensive. Check this site: www.cargoshipcruises.nl, it has an english version as well.

You probably know this already, but if you could face making your way to New York first you could get a cheaper passenger boat.

A friend of mine, Jack, who is an occassional poster here on TP and runs the website http://www.flyless.info/ went from the Uk to Canada (and back) by ship late last year, and can probably give you all the info you need.
