It's not designed to be objective, if you ask me. If someone finds someone else's post useful, s/he can give it a good rating. According to some (but the precise algorhitm is one of TP's best-kept secrets), the ratings contribute significantly to members' ranks. Except those in the OT forum :)

haha. that could make a firsttime poster a travelguru. is that possible? if a lot of people rate a firsttimer with a ten, what happens?
